Physical therapy for Central Oregon athletes who want to make their greatest comeback after a knee injury

Features

Let's get right to it Friend

You're here on this page because you just experienced a major knee injury or have been dealing with one for a long time now... and what you want the most is to actually be able to put this chapter behind you. For good.

You wanna know something? You've finally landed in the right place. It's my mission to partner up with you in your rehab journey and provide you with the best possible physical therapy and whole-person support so that you can get back to a life free of worries about your knee.

'

TKPT is the only PT clinic in Central Oregon providing specialized knee injury rehab for athletes who are serious about getting back to the sports and active lifestyle that fills their cup.

Deep down you know you’re someone who’s happiest when you can go can ski some laps in the morning, run the trails on your lunch break, and then catch the sunset at the top of the best hike in town.

But life got in the way and served you up a sidelining knee injury, which is a huge pain in the toosh – and is secretly or not so secretly getting in the way of other things in your life too.

Feeling like you can’t perform at work without pain or feeling like you’re falling behind?

Tired of feeling like you’re holding your family back when it comes to making new memories in the mountains or at the playground?

Worried that you’ll lose your closest friends and community because you’re on the injured list?

I get it - I've been there, too.

And we both know the last thing you want is to be even more stressed out in your healing journey because you're not getting the physical therapy care you deserve.

Whether you’ve torn your ACL, shredded your meniscus, or couldn’t finish your last half marathon because of that nagging pain in your knee (which you know has secretly been there for years now)...

I’m here to help you achieve your comeback goals so that you can finally feel like yourself again and live the life you love

First - there's something you should know

The physical therapy you get in my clinic is not like the experiences you’ve had before (or heard about from your friends or family members).

I do things differently – because recovering from a big-time knee injury at your highest level of potential involves treating more than just your knee. You are a whole human with a body, mind, and spirit that have all been impacted and all play a role in the healing process.

Those thoughts and feelings I mentioned above like falling behind, growing disconnected from your favorite people, and that deep down worry that you’ll never get back to “normal” again? Science shows that these fluctuations in your mental and emotional well-being can take a toll on the way your body heals, feels, and performs.  I’ve seen it in thousands of patients and I’ve also experienced it myself (plus there’s loads of research to prove it, too).

Avoiding those very human parts of you and expecting you to have a strong and smooth recovery is like building a house on quicksand and expecting it to stand tall. It doesn’t work.

I don't believe in this kind of half-assing it - which is why The Knee PT exists. Because you deserve the kind of care that helps you form a rock-solid foundation so that you can keep playing the sports you love for life.

Hi  I'm Dr Jen Davis

DOCTOR OF PHYSICAL THERAPY + CERTIFIED MINDSET COACH

'

I help athletes sidelined with a knee injury make their best comeback with the highest level of support and lowest amount of stress.

I know what it's like to work your ass off and follow the perfect training plan, only to be stopped dead in your tracks by an injury that couldn't have come at a worse time. I also know what it's like to decide early on that you won't settle for anything but the best when it comes to the providers on your recovery team -- because your end goal is to get back to your favorite sports and active lifestyle as fast and strong as possible. Literally every second counts, right?

I know because I've been a hardworking athlete my whole life, too. And unfortunately my sports career was riddled with big-time injuries, including 2 ACL injuries that led to 4 intense surgeries and long-haul recoveries. Over the past 10+ years, I've learned from both personal and professional experience what does and doesn't work when it comes to returning back to sport strong, healthy, and injury-free for the long-term.

It won't happen simply by doing your straight leg raises, single leg squats, icing, elevating, and taking a few days to rest here and there. There's way more to it -- and it's important to me that you spend less time experiencing setbacks and more time getting back to the activities that make you who you are.

Your time and the joy you get to experience in life matters.

That's why my treatment approach is different from - dare I say - every other clinic

After years of researching all of the variables that make or break any one knee injury rehab process, it's become apparent to me that sports medicine in general is missing the mark on one very important thing - which is supporting you from a whole-human perspective - body, mind, and spirit.

Most PT clinics will say they take a whole-body approach, and they're not wrong. Nearly every PT has been trained to understand how stiffness in your spine affects the way your hip, knee, and ankle move. But "whole body" is different than "whole human". And if you want to get to the root of the things that may have caused your injury to happen in the first place, it's crucial to think bigger.

That's where I come in.

After 7+ years working as a Doctor of Physical Therapy and 3+ years of working as a Sports Injury Coach, I've designed a one-of-its-kind PT clinic that blends leader-of-the-pack physical therapy care with mental and emotional well-being support, too. Because I'm a firm believer that half-ass support leads to half-ass results. And you deserve better than that!

Now, I hear you wondering...
"What does this look like in real life?"

In case you're looking for a little more clarity about what "mental and emotional well-being" actually means, I got you.

I'm talking about the sadness and anger you feel when your friends go on a weekend ski trip without you.

Or the frustration you're feeling because you hate that this injury even happened in the first place.

And the way you find yourself snapping at your husband and your kids because they somehow keep "forgetting" that you can't quite keep up with them in the grocery store at the playground just yet.

And let's not shy away from the doubt and worry you have that you'll actually feel "normal" again or get back to your pre-injury physical activity level.

Last but certainly not least, let's talk about that heart-thumping, stomach-dropping sensation you get when you're finally ready to put your ski boots, running shoes, or soccer cleats back on -- even though you've been passing your return-to-play testing with flying colors.

First, there's nothing wrong with you for having these experiences, no matter how hard you've tried to power through and stay positive. After all, you are a human and you are hardwired to have these icky feelings.

Second, these thoughts and feelings have to be supported and nurtured if you want to give your body the best possible foundation for rocking this recovery and getting back to adventure weekends in the mountains feeling care-free and confident (oh, and have the lowest risk of re-injury, too).

When we work together and provide these mental and emotional parts of you with the same level of support as we'll devote to your physical body's needs, you'll become unstoppable.

At The Knee PT + Coaching, this looks like:

  1. Completing questionnaires at your initial evaluation and periodically throughout your rehab process to measure your mental and emotional resilience, see what areas are strong, and what ones have potential for improvement

  2. Arriving to each session with an open-mind and willingness to ask for/receive help when something about you just seems "off" or the results from your questionnaires suggest areas of growth in your mental and emotional resilience

  3. Being ready to show up as your full-human self knowing that The Knee PT + Coaching is a safe place for you to share what's on your mind and heart.

Note: you will never be pressured or required to commit to mental and emotional coaching support if it doesn't feel right to you. However, it is a support option that is highly encouraged if you're seriously dedicated to a smooth, strong, and fast recovery (+ a healthy future).
